Brock Turner, who got lenient sentence after raping a girl, has his face in a new textbook as an example of rapist

The law might have let Brock Turner off easy but posterity will forever remember him as a rapist, all thanks to a criminology textbook.

In 2016, Brock Turner, a swimmer for Stanford University, filled national headlines after he raped a drunk and unconscious college-aged girl in January 2015. He received a lot of attention for his behavior during the ensuing criminal trial, and also for the lenient sentencing that he received. He was sentenced to only six months of confinement in county jail after his father argued that his son shouldn’t have twenty years of his life wasted due to a twenty minute mistake.

One year after, Brock is in the news again after his photo was seen in a Criminal Justice 101 textbook. His face was placed next to an explanation of rape. The page in the textbook with Brock's face was posted by a student. 

The caption, from Introduction to Criminal Justice: Systems, Diversity, and Change by Callie Marie Rennsion & Mary Dodge, reads:  "Brock Turner, a Stanford student who raped and assaulted an unconscious female college student behind a dumpster at a fraternity party, was recently released from jail after serving only three months. Some are shocked at how short this sentence is. Others who are more familiar with the way sexual violence has been handled in the criminal justice system are shocked that he was found guilty and served any time at all. What do you think?"

The photo of Brock being used as the textbook definition of rape has pleased a lot of people who feel justice was not served.
