A bank customer has told of how his bank account was wiped after his phone was stolen, and his story exposed the new method being used to steal from people's bank accounts.
After Etuky Abasiono shared the story of how he was shocked to find the money in his bank account had been withdrawn after his phone went missing, Awaje Mercy Rahab explained that it's now very easy for fraudsters to gain access to people's money simply by getting their BVN which can be easily taken from one's phone by dialling a shortcode.
"Let me tell u how they did the transaction. There are USSD codes for mobile transaction for every bank now via sms. Once they know the bank you are using, they will use the mobile USSD of the bank. The last four digits of your BVN is all that is needed for the transaction and that can be gotten by dialing *556*0# on your phone, if it's the number with which you registered ur BVN. I'm so sorry dear," Awaje Mercy explained.
